Deena Morley

Class - Deena emailed me earlier this week to let me know of some troubles that she was having in her pregnancy and a break through she had with GOD! Read on...

Christa can you post this?

It is amazing how God works! It is like He gives you the knowledge right when you need it! Monday as I was driving to work I felt a sudden need to cry out to God to get me through the day. Just like we talked about Sunday night! And He was there and my week began to get better. On Wed. I began having complications with my pregnancy and when I didn't know what else to do, I cried out once again. I am doing better and our baby girl is growing and doing great, I just have to take it easy for a few days. I seems that I have been over doing it lately. I wouldn't have ever humbled myself enough to cry out to Him if we hadn't talked about it recently! So I would like to thank everyone for the great discussion and opening my mind and heart more to God! We are still asking for prayers that everything continues to go well.

In God's name,
Deena

Discussion on Self-Contol

Hello Group! Though we just finished our class a few minutes ago, I thought I would log on and write a quick post! I have really been procrastinating these last couple of weeks in getting thoughts posted, so I am recommitting to doing better ;)!

This evenings class was great! We had great discussion and group participation. Everyone seems to really be digging into and exploring how, what and why character qualities bring us closer to God! I believe that we are on the brink of growing closer than we ever expected with the discussion we had this evening regarding fasting!

I really encourage us to all think of a way, date and/or time that would be feasible and work to make a group fast come together. Maybe we could have a lock-in of sorts and do an all-nighter, finish up by joining Kris for 5:00 am prayer group and then heading for breakfast! Jenn, we can even have beans on the menu! :D Just a thought. Let's see what we can come up with and hopefully Deb can give us some spiritual guidance about preparing for and going through a fast.

Keep up the good work! I really appreciate everyone coming to class prepared and ready to discuss! I hope everyone is enjoying the group as much as I am. It definitely filled my "gas tank" up and I am now ready to conquer the week!

For HIM!

Self-Control vs. Self-Indulgence

Today we will be studying Self-Control!
I am excited about this because this is one area that I feel we can ALL impove in! Especially me! I will see everyone at class at 4:30 pm for some great discussion!

Sunday's Class

This coming Sunday we will discuss the lesson over
Tolerance
Please make sure you have read through the lesson before coming to class so that we have plenty of time to discuss and reflect. I am working on trying to figure the issue with posting comments on the blog. I know that everyone has been having problems with that. I will try to get that finalized tomorrow and let everyone know what to do next! Thanks for your patience this week! I have been super busy so I didn't get this posted as early as I would have liked. See you on Valentine's Day!

Character Quality LOVE vs. Selfishness

We have all been without power for some time this last week and we also missed our opportunity to meet together to discuss our first Character Quality topic LOVE vs. Selfishness. But now the sun is shining and class will resume!

We will meet on Sunday, February, 7th at 4:30 pm!
Family Life Center Room 201!

Even if you were not able to make it to the first class meeting, please come this Sunday and check it out!

Make sure that you have read over the introductory section of The Power for True Success (pages 9-30.) I know that this is a lot of pages but it is really important that you have this basis as we begin to discuss the different Character Qualities and what they mean to our walk with Christ. I promise, all the readings on the individual Character Qualities will be pretty short, so bear with me! Also, you might have a bit of trouble with the version of scriptures used in the text. Just make sure you have your Bible with you so you can look up any scriptures you need to understand more clearly.

Also make sure you have the section of Love vs. Selfishness read (pages 31-34.) We will discuss this section on Sunday the 7th! Make sure you make note of any questions or comments that you may have on this section. Please post them on the blog or bring them with you to class.

Hopefully, next week I will be able to post on the next Character Quality earlier in the week since we have power and internet back now. See you all on Sunday!

Raising a Family of Character

A new class is coming to FUMC Altus!
Join us in a study on Raising a Family of Character. This study is geared toward parents who want to look at building character in our own lives and how to go about instilling that character in our children.

Class Meeting Time
Raising a Family of Character will begin on January 24, 2010 at 4:30 pm. We will be located in classroom 201 in the Family Life Center of FUMC. Please call the church at 580.482.0795 for more details or to enroll.

The Plan
The initial plan for this class is to do a 10 week program. We will study 9-10 different character qualities during that period. The class members will decide which character qualities are most important or interesting and we will focus on those qualities. After our initial 10 week class is up, the group will decide where we want to go next. The members as a whole will make the decisions on where the group will go from beginning to end!

Childcare
Childcare will be available in the church nursery for the full meeting time. Let us know how many kiddos you have so the nursery staff can be prepared!

Course Material
We will be using the book The Power for True Success: How to Build Character in Your Life from the Institute in Basic Life Principles. According to The Power for True Success, "The Institute in Basic Life Principles is a Biblically based, not-for-profit, nonsectarian training and service organization dedicated to serving families, youth, and leaders worldwide, through training in Biblical principles that bring true success in life." Since that pretty much sums up what we want to accomplish in this study, we felt this was an excellent choice for course material!

The Blog
This part of the course will set our group apart from most groups or classes you probably have been involved with in the past. The blog will give us an opportunity to come together throughout the week in a community of support. Here we will ask questions, make comments and come together in a way that will maximize our growth as we support each other!

So...WELCOME to Raising a Family of Character! Fasten your seat belts, make sure the kids are in their car seats and enjoy the RIDE!
